(1908-1993)
John Tuzo-Wilson, a Canadian geophysicist, suggested that the Hawaiian and other volcanic island chains may have formed due to the movements of a plate over a stationary hot spot. His discover lead to three types of plates transform faults, divergent boundaries, and convergent boundaries.
Transform faults: a strike slip fault that off sets a mid-ocean-ridge in opposing directions on either side of the sea-floor.
Divergent boundaries: a linger feature that exists between two tectonic plates that are moving away from each other.
Convergent boundary: deforming regions where two or more tectonic plates or fragments of the lithosphere move towards one another and collide.

Convergent boundary: deforming regions where two or more tectonic plates or fragments of the lithosphere move towards one another and collide.
This a example of convergent boundary, the oceanic plate and continental plate are colliding with each other making the oceanic plate move under the continental plate.
